Put a Pin in It

{Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin, $6.29 for two}

Did you hear a pin drop?

I know, things have been quiet around 5thjoy lately. (I blame two big trips, the install of our long-planned drawing room project, and a diet shift of sea change proportions, all of which have had my head in a non-blogging place the past few weeks.  Shame on me.)

But let’s get back to pins.  For years now I’ve been on a holy-grail hair pin hunt, stalking the mythical tool to whip my limp locks into an updo without causing a headache or an ill-timed hairvalanche.

Goody’s latest entry, the aptly-named Spin Pin, is a contender.

Goody claims it has the holding force of 20 bobby pins.  I’ve crammed well more than 20 bobbies into my skull, and I can vouch that two of these do the trick quite nicely.

It’s simple to use, too.  Twist your hair into a bun or French twist.  Hold onto the closed end of the spiral and insert the open end into the base of the bun.  Twist up until the pin disappears.  Repeat from the top with the second pin for additional stability.

If this works on my stick-straight hair, which seems to view every updo as an opportunity for Houdini heroics, I bet it works like a charm for those with a bit of wave or curl.

I’m also partial to these pins, though they’re a bit bulky.  Have you discovered any  pins with magic gripping abilities?

I’m heading to Target this afternoon! I need one! It would be great to keep my hair up during Yoga class…I’ll let you know if it works. My hair is pretty fine so we’ll see. Thanks for the clip tip!

My friends are all obsessed with the twisty bobby pins! They’re pretty cool.
