Beauty Soulmate: Cle de Peau’s Concealer

Cle de Peau’s concealer, $70

If you’ve caught the makeup posts on the blog this month, you’ll know I’m a the-more-the-merrier type when it comes to foundation techniques and undereye camouflage.  True, I might have more foundations than Bill Henrickson has wives.  But when it comes to concealer there’s only one Big Love: Cle de Peau’s cult favorite.

You might assume any concealer in a tube is dry and cakey.  Truth is, this one goes on with an almost creamy consistency, and neither dries out nor slides around.  Try applying it with a small-tipped makeup brush.  You’ll need surprisingly little.  One tube can last a year, may be longer.  (Memo to the hygiene police: I swipe the top with alcohol every once in a while and wash my brushes regularly.)  I’ve never had it go “off” before I’ve finished the tube.

A word of caution: I use the lightest shade, ivory, and there are plenty of people with lighter skin.  If you’re on the Casper end of the spectrum, you might have better luck elsewhere (try Bobbi Brown).

Is $70 steep for concealer?  Absolutely.  It just happens to be the best performing one I’ve ever tried.  If I have only two or three minutes after washing my face and moisturizing, I use this concealer, pat on some cream blush, add a swipe of mascara and dash.

Do you have a favorite concealer that’s less taxing on the wallet?

I use the Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick that you linked too and I really like it. It works for me and my budget. It would definitely be my pick as well for something at a lower price point.

Thanks for chiming in Kimberley! The one drawback about finding a stellar product (like this concealer) is that one stops trying other versions. Since I haven’t used the Bobbi Brown, it’s helpful to hear you like it.

I totally agree with you! I’ve tried many types and this is by far the best quality. I also like their Refining Fluid Foundation, definitely pricey but amazing effect and lasts forever.

I think your blog is a joy to read! I’m a fellow Cape Ann blogger in Annisquam. I look forward to your posts!

Eryn, how nice to hear from a fellow local blogger! I just added Plucky Finds to my Google reader – already enjoying your posts (Julieanne Moore for Talbots? Who knew?) and looking forward to more.
