Crosley Portable USB Turn Table, $160
After much research and musings on music players vintage and new, we finally pulled the trigger on a new record player that looks vintage. I know, I know: super lame. But hear me out.
99% of the time I advocate buying the Real Thing, but in this instance I”ll cop to a few weaknesses that led me down the reproduction path.
A: Dipping a toe into the vintage record player market left me quite certain I was way in over my head. These things require repairs and knowledge, and let’s face it, if the Mr. and I haven’t figured out how to program our thermostats we’re probably not going to have the time to decode a fading technology. B: The Crosley has a USB port, and yes, I will plug my iPod into it! C: It’s turquoise. Come on.
So there you have it. I sold out for a repro record player. And secretly I’m really, really excited. Let the LP hunting begin.
How long til 8 tracks come back? Or are the kids in Bushwick already fawning over those? (Are the kids in Bushwick these days?) We had some mean 8 track dance parties back in the day.

You did the right thing. As I speak, we are in possession of 3 vintage record players, only one of which works (the other two ran into needle issues that we didn’t feel like dealing with). Sometimes buying a repro is just a means to an end – in this case actually getting to hear some music on vinyl. Have fun with the hunt!
Validation received and accepted. I just know that’s what would happen to us: broken needles languishing for months on end. We’ll have some tunes when you come for dinner next month!
I back it! Repro purchases sometimes really are the best. And turqoise?? Pshhhh. Sold. Lovely blog! So thrilled to have found you! Following now. xo, Erika
