One Woman Wonder: Amy Meier in Better Homes and Gardens

January 5, 2011

Readers, you may have seen me tweet about Amy’s Meier’s spread in the January issue of Better Homes and Gardens.  I wanted to save my big, gushy, congratulatory post for after the holiday hubbub.

Better Homes devoted an entire story to Amy’s gem of an apartment.  If you live in a small space, or even if you just like to maximize every inch, pick up a copy and scour it for her one-room-wonder tips.  Amy had me over for dinner this past weekend – her Mr. makes a mean chili -  and I can attest that their place is equally charming, comfy, and stylish in person.

{Who wouldn’t want to work at that desk?  Head over to Amy’s blog for the whole shebang.}

You might have seen Amy’s decor magic in our den.    She and I are just digging into a new project (the drawing room), and you can see the gorgeous living room, dining room and guest bedroom she designed for us here.  (In full disclosure, I’ve helped her with branding consultation and copy writing work, which was not nearly as transformative as her impact on our home.)

I tipped you all off when Amy started blogging back in March 2010, and boy, a lot’s happened since then. Within a year of opening her interior design business, her work has graced several publications (did you see her construction-free kitchen makeover tips in Woman’s Day?).  Eddie Ross took a shine to Amy from the get-go, and I predict he’s the first of many to spotlight her in national pubs. After all, doesn’t Eddie have the best eye?

I can, and do, call Amy about everything from wardrobe crises and couch proportions to career goals and marriage advice.  Friends like that are few and treasured.  She’s so special that I’ll even listen to country music with her in the car.  (Well, in her car, anyway.)

To see and celebrate Amy’s success is the best possible way to start the New Year.

I’m getting teary.  But seriously!  Isn’t she fantastic?

P.S.  You can follow Amy & my tweets here and here.  Don’t forget her facebook page, too, and 5thjoy’s.

Watching both y’all take off this past year has been inspiring for your readers – and I have to say (not to get overly analytical about it all) it’s nice to see friendship between women celebrated as you promote and support each other. Congratulations to Amy – and to you, for being among the first to recognize her talent!

Now that my tears have dried up, I can comment. :) Your support and praise means the world to me! You have a killer home and am honored to design it. Thank you for being such a fabulous friend :)

You know it, babe. From cheese plates and boy talk to decorating houses and starting businesses: how far we’ve come! Bring on whatever’s next. Someday we’ll rehash it all in our porch rockers. With cocktails.
