3 Secrets For Perfecting Fall’s Cat Eyeliner

From Bazaar to Boden, the cat-eye look is back big time this fall.  I’ve never gotten it quite right; generally I end up with way too much on after trying to correct mistakes.

Recently I found three simplifying, fool-proof tips (who knew a scalene triangle does the trick?).  Read on, and don’t miss the how-to links, video and otherwise, at the bottom.

1. Use an angled brush. Not a brush with angled bristles, but one with an angled handle.  This allows you to see the line as you apply, with less visual interference from your hand and the brush.

2. Use gel liquid liner. Everyone agrees MAC Fluidline is the best for this application.  I also love L’Oreal HiP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner, and it’s a bargain.

3. Use your LOWER lash line to determine the angle of the swoop, or flick.  Even if you aren’t lining your lower lash line, the top swoop should continue as if it were an extension of your lower lash.  After applying eyeliner close to your upper lash line, and using your lower lash line as a guide, make a dot where you want the flick to end.  Connect that dot to the bottom of your upper lash line.  Sweep from the top of the dot across your upper lash line, creating a scalene triangle.  Fill the triangle in, and you’ve got your winged look.

Since I just cut my hair and got heavy, straight bangs, I’ve been obsessed with this makeup look. This post is really helpful, thanks!
