A bit of flotsam I may occasionally throw in the 5thjoy mix: playlists. The focus will remain food, fashion, and home – but isn’t music almost always the backdrop?

I used to listen to music on my laptop in our little New York studio, ensconced in a private auditory bubble. Now here we are in a rambling house, hosting generation-spanning dinners and a revolving cast of weekend guests, and the wordless music I write to won’t do.
The July list has to please a crowd: it’s got to have a little folk, some really good 80s tunes, a mostly sunny disposition, and it can’t drive me bonkers.
Side note: we haven’t invested in a music system, mostly because we’re convinced whatever we choose will be obsolete in 3.2 seconds (although this looks promising), but also because we’re fond of this radio.

Nice! I heart the Avett Bros. to an embarrassing degree. Just discovered Ingrid Michaelson recently thanks to my 14-year-old nephew (he has great taste).
Sarah, do you listen to WERS? Seems like they play the Avett Bros. almost hourly.
Not regularly. Another nephew (this one an 18-year-old musician) told me about The Avett Bros. Love their unsophisticated sound, if you know what I mean. And they play the banjo. What’s not to like about that?
We have a Sonos system so if you ever want to tech-chat about it let me know. (Jasper set it up so he’d be better at explaining the tech aspects, I just like to chat!)
Fantastic Natasha! I’ll take you up on that when we’re ready to get serious. Of everything I’ve looked into, it’s the most appealing. And knowing it’s Natasha & Jasper-approved gives me even more confidence in it.

Kevin! Your pictures are stunning, I’ve admired them on GMG. I’ll check out WXPN. College radio is a great way to discover new music, especially if you don’t live in a big city where bands roll through. Thanks for popping by and leaving an encouraging word.

Is there a way to play the whole 52 continuously? This is a great mix! Obsolete(ism)isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker with sound systems – we’re playing LPs and listening to music on Harmon Kardon (sp?) speakers bought in 1989 (the ones on the stems with the wood-grain finish on top).
