Around this time every year I kick myself for not having a peacoat, and this photo of Jane Birkin breezing into Heathrow airport says it all (note the wicker basket – this predates her namesake bag). But let’s face it, buying a peacoat isn’t all that exciting. Red heels and feather hats give a rush. The time-tested peacoat? Not so much. If I’d done it years ago I’d have one to pull out when the weather turns nippy. My criteria are as follows: preferably navy blue though black will do, hip length or slightly longer, slim cut (the boxy cut flatters only the boyishly slight and/or tall), and cannot be Juicy Couture due to their exceedingly cloying ad campaigns. Read on for some that fit the bill.
